Items
- 300 gramsall-purpose flour
- 100 gramsgranulated sugar
- 1egg
- 200 gramsbutter, cold and cubed
- 200 gramsmixed nuts, chopped
- 2 tablespoonshoney
- 100 gramsdark chocolate
Steps
- 1. Prepare the shortcrust dough
Combine the flour, sugar, egg, and butter to form a smooth shortcrust dough. Wrap it in cling film and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This will make the dough easier to handle and roll out.
- 2. Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F) so it's ready for baking the Nussecken. Ensuring the oven reaches the right temperature is crucial for even baking.
- 3. Roll out and bake the dough
Roll out the dough on a floured surface and place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Shape it into a rectangle about 1 cm thick. Pre-bake the dough for about 10 minutes until slightly golden.
- 4. Prepare the nut topping
In a saucepan, melt butter, sugar, and honey then bring to a boil. Add in the chopped nuts and mix well. Spread this nut mixture over the pre-baked dough evenly.
- 5. Final baking
Bake the Nussecken in the oven for another 15-20 minutes or until the nut topping is golden and caramelized. Keep an eye to avoid burning.
- 6. Cut and decorate
After baking, cut the large rectangle into small triangle pieces while it is still warm. Once cooled, dip the corners of each Nussecken in melted chocolate. This adds a delicious finishing touch and the characteristic look of Nussecken.
